French Map Project: Caballero: Assignment

The Assignment Part I

Working with your map of France, and the resources provided, locate the following interesting facts about France's culture and place them on the map. Be sure to use a picture of each item on your map in the proper geographical location.

All projects should present on the capital of the country, day it was founded; symbols associated with France,   location on the map of the capital and three major important facts about the capital; talk about the flag and the meaning of its colors; major cultural events and economic relevance in Europe.   (two facts).  Also, make sure to insert videos, pictures, cartoons on your interactive map.

Impressionist movement: when was it founded, who are the most representative artists, what is the meaning of this kind of painting, what does it represent, where  can you locate in France museums with such works, name some of the most relevant paintings. 

Wine and Chees productionin Southwest France: locate this region on the map, its main cities; its rivers; main vyneyards; main cheese production area; explain the importance of wine in the French culture. why do French eat cheese at the end of the meals; is wine a substitute for medicine in France?  Show on the map regions of main agricultural grape production; types of grapes and the most popular ones.  Please, talk about the process of wine production.  Why are French wines so famous?

Main castles in Avignon and Carcasonne: Please, locate these places on your map.  Find the main castles of these regions, when were they built, talk about what they were used for, who lived in them, what arquictural period do they represent; are castles fortresses if so, please, explain.  What was the importance of castles in Medieval times? who lived outside of castles? Why?  What is inside a castle?  Please, describe.

The story of the Cathars: Who were the Cathars?  When did they live? What are the characteristics of their social structure?  Where in France did they live?  What happened to the Cathars?  What is the difference between the social structure of the Cathars and the Dominicans?  How was their life style?  Was art very much an important part of their lives?  

Traditional children's short stories: Main writers, titles of at least five important books for children, topics of the stories; regions where those writers are from and illustrations about the books.  Also, please, see if there are any similarities with your culture and what they are.  Bring some visual and objects to support your presentation.  Merci!

Rwanda's most important cultural information: Foods, fashion, music, main cities, capital, flag, important tourist sites, when was the country established?  Please, use a video, pictures, objects to support your presentation.  I hope you have fun!

​Presentation: 

  • After completing your Thinglink project you will share your work your with the class in a 5-10 minute oral presentation.
  • During the presentation you may not use written notes.
  • Please take some time to practice your presentation. 
  • Remember, you are being graded on the length of your presentation (between 5 and 10 minutes) as well as the content and your presentation skills.
